About Your Solid Waste Services Fee

Summit County Residents historically paid for household garbage and recycling through their property taxes. In 2016, the County Council determined the cost of waste collection and disposal should transition to a fee basis starting with 2016’s annual rate of $36. Summit County contracted with Republic Services to be the collection point for these fees, which are billed once each year. Non-payment is subject to late fees. In July of 2021, the annual solid waste fee increased to $80. This annual fee of $80 per year remains substantially below the actual cost to operate household waste and recycle collection.
